Our aim at Gortnacart N.S. is to get everyone moving more often in a fun environment.  The Active School Flag initiative has been a very positive experience for all the children, parents and staff.

Our active slogans.

The children and parents came up with different slogans.  We decided on a few of these to be put up around the outside of the school.   Our main slogan is ‘Keep it lit, let’s get fit’

Look at all our wonderful sporting achievements!

Big excitement today when Gerard O’Donnell came to visit our school.  Gerard has just retained his title in the All Ireland 110m hurdles.  He showed the children some videos and pictures of his races over the last 5 years.  He brought in a selection of medals which the children really enjoyed.

Afterwards, Gerard brought the children out to the yard where they did some warm ups, threw javelins, and were put into relay teams for the hurdle races.  He then showed the children a few tips for running and jumping over hurdles!

L.M. presented Gerard with a ‘Thank you’ card.  The children also got the opportunity to ask lots of questions.  An enjoyable afternoon was had by all!  We wish him every success in the future!
